The key to successfully transitioning to renewable energy generation is technology, transmission and time. The technology to replace all fossil fuel with renewable generation and battery storage does not exist today. Reliability will suffer and prices will go up. The current transmission system is not designed for intermittent renewable energy sources. Time is needed to think through realistic options. Trying to force climate-change initiatives by 2030 or 2035 will not work. The 2021 winter storm is an important reminder of the value of your power supplier’s balanced generation strategy.
