Extreme cold may lead to peak usage

The frigid temperatures predicted for this weekend could possibly set a new peak usage for Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative members. During the winter months it is very difficult when extremely cold weather hits to avoid setting new peak usage. During the winter, peaks are typically set in the early morning hours when members are taking showers, preparing breakfast and everything else that goes into getting ready to go to work or begin their day.

As a reminder, when peak is getting close or a new one is set, it does not mean we are running short of energy. However, it does mean that our members are using more energy than they have before, which results in HOEC having to commit to a new level of daily purchases to those that generate our power.
