High School Juniors can apply for CYCLE program now

Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative (HOEC) continues its commitment to support area youth in education. The Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (CYCLE) is a statewide effort of the Electric Cooperatives of Missouri designed to bring together some of the brightest young high school students to learn about electric cooperatives and state government. The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives hosts the conference each July.

HOEC will again sponsor two high school juniors to attend the conference. CYCLE will take place July 15th – 17th, 2020, at the Double Tree Hotel and Conference Center in Jefferson City.

In July of 2019, more than 90 high school students attended from all parts of Missouri. Last year’s delegate, Faith Stewart, said “CYCLE was a great opportunity to interact with other students from all across the state.” She also stated that other highlights of the conference included hearing from nationally known speakers such as Rachel’s Challenge and learning more about state government and electric cooperatives. Faith concluded by stating that she would recommend CYCLE to other students.

To apply to become a CYCLE delegate, students who are currently juniors are required to complete an application and answer a few questions about themselves. An official application can be acquired on the cooperative website at www.hoecoop.org/?q=CYCLE. The application can be completed online, or it can be printed, filled out and mailed to the cooperative. Applications may be submitted to Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative, Inc., to the attention of Dakota Bates, Member Communications Specialist, P.O. Box 649, West Plains, MO, 65775. If a student would prefer, they may produce a two or three minute video, verbally answering the questions to apply and email it to Member Communications Specialist, Dakota Bates, at dbates@hoecoop.org.

Two students will be selected from an independent group of judges to attend CYCLE. The deadline to enter is February 17th, 2020.
