January 12 & 13 winter storm report

Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (HOEC) officials report that many electric cooperatives across the state of Missouri were impacted by Winter Storm Gia. At its peak, the storm caused nearly 20,000 outages scattered around the state. HOEC members weren’t heavily impacted like other cooperatives in the central part of the state.

Crews were hampered by ice which made travel extremely difficult. The heavy weight of the ice caused trees located outside the right of way to fall onto lines which was the primary cause of outages at HOEC. Electric cooperative crews worked diligently to safely restore power to members. HOEC crews started Friday evening and worked nonstop through Saturday evening restoring power as the outages occurred.

HOEC would like to remind members that winter storms can cause power lines to fall. If you ever come across a downed power line, stay away from it and call HOEC immediately at 417-256-2131 or 1-888-HOE-POWER. Additionally, if you need to report an outage, you can do so by calling 417-256-2131 or 1-888-HOE-POWER. You can also report an outage through this website using the online power outage report form.
