High School Juniors: apply for CYCLE by February 19th

Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative (HOEC) continues its commitment to support area youth in education. The Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (CYCLE), is a statewide effort of the Electric Cooperatives of Missouri designed to bring together some of the brightest young high school students to learn about electric cooperatives and state government.

The Association of the Missouri Electric Cooperatives hosts the conference each July. HOEC will again sponsor two high school seniors to attend the conference in 2018. CYCLE will take place July 18th – 20th, 2018 at the DoubleTree Hotel and Conference Center in Jefferson City.

The conference has grown each year as more students participate and more delegates are sponsored by the cooperatives. In July of 2017, more than 120 high school students attended from all parts of Missouri. Last year's HOEC delegate, Madison Farel, said “CYCLE was the opportunity of a lifetime and something I will remember for the rest of my life.” She also stated that she learned a lot about electric cooperatives and the many departments it takes to maintain a successful cooperative. Madison ended by saying, “I truly enjoyed my experience, and will recommend it to other students.”

For a student to apply to become a CYCLE delegate, students who are currently juniors are required to complete an application and answer a few questions about themselves. An official application can be acquired here on the cooperative website. The application can be completed online, or it can be printed, filled out and mailed to the cooperative. If a student would prefer, they may produce a two or three minute video, verbally answering the questions to apply and email it to HOEC. Two students will be selected from an independent group of judges to attend CYCLE. The deadline to enter is February 19th, 2018.

See the CYCLE page on this website for more details.
