Improving Your Home’s Efficiency? Ask about rebates!

Energy efficiency is something we can all do to help control our electricity costs. In 2008, Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc., launched the Take Control & Save initiative to build on distribution cooperatives’ longtime energy efficiency efforts.

The Take Control & Save program helps members save money on their electric bills while giving the cooperative another tool to help control the cost of producing electricity. As we have said in previous articles, “there are two ways to save energy: conservation and efficiency. With conservation, if you use less you get less. By turning your thermostat to a higher setting you get less air and you will use less energy. With efficiency, you use less but you get the same or more.” Additionally, by becoming more efficient, you take control of your demand for electricity. Demand is the amount of power needed to supply every electrical device running in your home at a specific point. It is the rate at which you consume electricity. Demand gives you another way to control your electric bill while still maintaining your consumption needs, simply by spreading your usage throughout the day.

So, you might be asking, “how do I make my home more energy efficient?” The first step is to call Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (HOEC), and speak with our Member Services Department about a Home Energy Audit. Home Energy Audits are available for a $50 fee. Simply download and print the Home Energy Audit Request form on our website at, and complete and return the form to HOEC with your $50 payment to begin. Be sure to keep in mind, members who act on improvements suggested in the audit summary can receive up to $500 reimbursement from the Cooperative in the form of a Weatherization Rebate. Members must complete improvements suggested in the audit summary report and submit proof of the improvements. The Cooperative will rebate 50% of the cost of qualified improvements with a total cap of $500.

Additionally, HOEC offers rebates on Water Heaters, Ground-Source Heat Pumps, Dual-Fuel Heat Pumps, Mini-Split Heating and Cooling Systems, Advanced Thermostats, Heat Pump Water Heaters, Commercial and Industrial High Efficiency Motors, Commercial and Industrial Variable Frequency Drives for HVAC Pumps and Fans, and Basement/Crawlspace Insulation with the installation of a new Ground-Source Heat Pump. You can find more information about these rebates on our website at You can also speak to our Member Services Department by calling 417-256-2131 or toll-free at 1-888-HOE-POWER.
