Monday morning outage due to substation issue

Officials at Sho-Me Power Cooperative, Marshfield, Missouri report that starting at 2:15 a.m. Monday morning a substation in West Plains was without power until about 5:45 a.m. Sho-Me Power technicians were able to get power restored in just over three hours.

HOEC to share efficiency tips at Home and Garden Show in March

The Southern Missouri Home Builders Association (SMHBA) will host the twenty-second annual Home and Garden Show on March 1st and 2nd, 2014 at the West Plains Civic Center.

HOEC will be there to share ideas on how to build more energy-efficient homes and to bring members up to date on all of the latest energy efficiency incentives available from the Cooperative.

Affordable power at risk; EPA may propose unattainable policy

Seventy-five years ago, Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative began delivering affordable electricity to rural patrons in south-central Missouri as part of the Rural Electrification Act of 1936. Today, affordable power in America is being threatened by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

A look back at a productive 2013 and ahead to 2014

As the end of each year approaches, Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative takes time to reflect on the year that has passed and to look forward and plan for the year ahead.

No tricks, just treats at HOEC's "Trunk or Treat" booth

The annual "Trunk or Treat" event was held October 30th at the West Plains Civic Center. Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative participated along with other businesses and organizations, promoting a safe, family-friendly environment for area children to "trick or treat."

Electricity remains a good value

In the last ten years, electricity has proven to be a good value when compared to other commodities like gasoline, eggs, apples, ground beef, orange juice, bread and coffee. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumers Price Index, electricity has increased at a slower pace than any of these items (see graphic).

HOEC's Dan Singletary appointed to AMEC committee

Dan Singletary, CEO/General Manager of Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative, was recently appointed as a district representative to the Internal Operations Committee of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC), Jefferson City. AMEC is the service organization of the state's 47 Electric Cooperatives, which serve more than 560,000 rural consumers.

HOEC employees participate in CASA fundraiser

Twenty-three Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative employees and family members participated in the first ever "Color Me for CASA" color run held Saturday, September 28 in West Plains.
